She was born on November 9, 1936, to Dr. Rolv and Mrs. Dorothy Hegge, at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota, which was founded by her grandfather, Dr. Olaf Hegge, who had emigrated from Norway to attend medical school in the U.S.; she was raised with sisters, Karen Falardeau and Dorothy Weik. She is a Daughters of the American Revolution member through her mom's maternal side of the family. Her patriot is Nicholas Rouse who fought in New York battles alongside his father, Casper Rouse, in the Revolutionary War for America’s Independence from Britain. The Rouse’s founded ‘Rouses Point, NY’ bordering Montreal, Canada. Growing up, she developed her love and compassion for various pets and animals. She volunteered regularly, caring for animals, with the SPCA/animal shelters while living in Bowie, MD and her love for the animals continued for her entire life! Barbara was raised Protestant, in the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara married and had two children, Gary and Kris. She and her family left Austin and moved to Bowie, Maryland, in 1967. She later moved to Laurel, Maryland in 1986. For 20 years Barbara worked as a senior executive assistant of the Deputy Administrator, at the EPA in Washington, DC., meeting many members of Congress while performing her duties. She did well and enjoyed her time working in the Office of Emergency Response and coordinating super fund sites. She received several high achievement awards during her tenure. Being a good administrator, she was also well respected and liked. She is kind, welcoming and always had a kind word and smile for all she met, putting them at ease with her quiet and gentle sincerity; her positive attitude was always uplifting to everyone she met.
Barbara, daughter Kris, and sister Karen, joined the Arapahoe Chapter of the DAR, in 2014. Gary decided to move to Florida full-time with his job in the 1990's. So, when Barbara retired, she moved to Cape Coral Florida in December of 2003.
