Betty G. Williams of Ft. Meyers, Florida died peacefully in her sleep on June 27, 2022. She was 100 years old. Betty leaves behind her son and “daughter-in-love,” Ed and Janet Thomas of Cape Coral, Florida, along with her daughter, Debra Thomas of Denver, Colorado.
Betty grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where she married Ed Lang. Sadly, Ed was killed serving in WWII and Betty was left alone to raise an infant son with the help of her parents and three sisters. In 1949, she married August (Augie) Thomas and Debra came along a few years later. Betty was a full-time homemaker and mother, who also kept the books for Augie’s construction business. They retired in 1969 and explored the the United States in an RV before deciding to settle on Nancy Lane in Ft. Myers Beach. They enjoyed retirement together, especially fishing, until Augie died in 1982.
Betty moved to Indian Creek Mobile Home Park in Ft. Myers Beach and lived there until she married Chuck Williams in 1983. They moved to a home on Cutlass Drive and happily spent their time fishing, traveling in an RV and enjoying an active social life. Chuck passed away in 1989 and Betty moved back to Indian Creek, where she lived for another thirty years. She volunteered in the activities office and organized a Memorial Day program to honor veterans, including her three deceased husbands. She was an active member of the informal Indian Creek “Singles Gang” and rarely missed a dance, performance or other activity. These were some of her happiest years. She also enjoyed playing the slot machines at Spinners and the camaraderie of others who enjoyed gambling.
Betty spent her last four years at Calusa Harbor Senior Living Community in downtown Ft. Myers. She and her family always were grateful for the care she received from the nurses, CNAs and aides at Calusa Harbor. Betty also received loving care from from the staff at Hope Hospice, which made the final years easier for both her and her family. She was laid to rest by her family at Lee Memorial Gardens on June 30 and now is with the Lord.
A graveside service for Betty will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913.
