

Billie Jean Nuckolls, 67 of Ft. Myers, FL formerly of Cape Coral, FL passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at home. She was born on April 12, 1943 in Durham, NC to Dr. William Bowling and Agnes Paulk Bowling. She moved to Cape Coral from Alabama in 1968. Billie Jean was a graduate of Mars Hill College with a B.A. in 1965, University of Alabama with a M.A. in 1968, and Nova Southeastern University with an Education Specialist degree in 1990. She worked as an instructor at Edison College, and taught at Cypress Lakes High School , where she was the coordinator of the P.A.S.S. program, and at Estero High School the first year it opened. Billie Jean served as Lee County Supervisor of Elections in addition to her other public service. She was a Republican State Committeewomen and volunteered at Lakes Park Fragrance Garden and at Health Park Hospital for extended care mothers. One of her passions in life was gardening and after retirement she became a Certified Master Gardener. She enjoyed traveling and all attributes of living in South Florida. Her longtime dream was to travel with her family and grandchildren, a dream she was able to fulfill.
Billie Jean is survived by her loving family including her husband of 48 years, Hugh Paul Nuckolls; daughter, Katherine Nuckolls (Randall) Roger of Delray Beach, FL; son, Geoffrey (Holly) Nuckolls of Ft. Myers; grandchildren, Juliana Roger, Brandon Roger and Liam Nuckolls; sister, Katherine Anne Bowling; and nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm on Saturday, July 31st at First Baptist Church of Cape Coral, 4117 Coronado Pkwy., Cape Coral with the funeral services at 2pm. Burial services will follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery, 1630 SW Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral.
