Charlie recently retired as owner of First Knight Paving, a family owned business, and moved to Florida from Illinois to spend more quality time with his sister, Delores. He was a lover and collector of antiques, enjoyed long drives searching for a new restaurant to try, and most of all he loved his family with all of his heart, and devoted his life to caring for and being with them every chance he had. Always the comedian, he never failed to make you laugh even when you wanted to cry. His goofy nature would always turn a dull situation in the opposite direction. Any time those closest to him needed him, he was there to reach out a helping hand and would do anything for those he cared for. If you needed a laugh, a serious talk, or just someone to enjoy lunch with, he was there without a second of hesitation. He was the caregiver of his sister, Dorothy, for 18 years, and never once complained. His smile, humor, and caring heart, will forever be missed by all who knew him, and the hole that has been left in his absence is one that can never be filled. To know Charlie was to love him, and he left a lasting impression on all those who were lucky enough to meet or know him.
Charlie is survived by sisters: Delores and Dorothy; nephews: David, Joseph, Steven, Michael, Josh, Ricky, and David; niece: Stephanie; and his great nephew and great niece: Kayden and Kalani. Preceded in death by Walter Girton (father), Dorothy Girton (mother), David Girton (brother), and Kenneth Girton (nephew). Services will be held in Norridge, IL, on June 11th at Rago Brothers Funeral home. Visitation will be June 11th 4pm-8pm, followed by a service the following day at 11am.
