Davidson Irwin Christmas, of Mount Vernon, New York. He was better known simply as Dave to his family and friends, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in Cape Coral, Florida, on October 28, 2025. He was 77 years old.
David was born in Castle Bruce, Dominica, on November 27, 1947, the proud son of Arene (Maxwell) Christmas and Senford Christmas.
From an early age, he developed a deep love for math and science, a curiosity that sparked a lifelong passion for learning. That passion eventually blossomed into a profound dedication to architecture, engineering, and construction; fields that allowed him to combine creativity, precision, and service to others.
Dave’s journey was not without hardship. While working one of his multiple jobs as a taxi driver in New York City, he was robbed and shot in the hand. The injury was severe, and surgeons had to reconstruct his hand, even taking bone from his hip to support the repair. The recovery was extremely challenging; he temporarily could not walk or climb the subway stairs he once relied on. His daily commute was transformed into hours of travel by bus, and every step forward required determination and faith.
But Dave refused to let this setback derail his dreams. Instead, it became another chapter in his story of resilience. His spirit, focus, and belief in his purpose never wavered.
He pursued his education with remarkable determination, graduating from the New York Institute of Technology through an accelerated program with a Master of Architecture degree. Never one to stop growing, he continued on to Pratt Institute, earning a Master of Science in Urban and Community Planning.
He accomplished all of this while working multiple jobs, tirelessly supporting his dreams and setting an example of perseverance, discipline, and unshakeable faith. He later interned with several architects and engineers, always eager to learn as much as possible and refine his craft.
His dedication paid off when he passed the rigorous 12-division, 3-hour-each architectural licensing examinations, ultimately earning his Architectural License; a milestone he was deeply proud of.
Throughout his career, he had the privilege of leaving his mark across the East Coast and on multiple islands, contributing to buildings, communities, and projects that will stand for generations. His work reflects not only his intelligence and talent, but also his desire to build spaces that uplift and serve others.
Above all his achievements, Dave was a loving father who always made time for his children, no matter what responsibilities he carried. He believed wholeheartedly in the power of education, often saying, “They can never take your education away from you.” He encouraged others to dream boldly, work hard, stay curious, and always do what is right.
Dave’s legacy lives on in the structures he built, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a loving family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Eva Juliana Hector, and his beloved children: David I. Christmas Jr., Valentine M. Thomas, Delford I. Christmas, Clem Marie, Dakeya Christmas, Dawana Christmas, Arene V. Christmas, Kasandra D. Christmas, and Isaiah K. Christmas.
He was a cherished grandfather to Julian Stewart, Jumanne Christmas, Liam Stewart, Promiss Stewart, Marquise Christmas, Bayle Marie, Dylan Marie, David Marie, Evan Marie, Marina Christmas, Deanna Christmas, Desayna Christmas, and Dhalia Christmas, and a proud great-grandfather to Sven Christmas, Braylen Johnson, Bryson Johnson, Karian Christmas, and Ian Christmas.
Dave also leaves behind his siblings: Elford Christmas, Masford Christmas, Ramona Hamilton, Phillip Christmas, Dr. A. Verine Jackson, and Florentine Christmas, along with a multitude of extended family members and countless friends who were blessed by his company.
Dave will always be deeply missed and warmly remembered by everyone who knew him. Loved ones will forever cherish his memory and carry his spirit forward.
May he rest in God’s eternal peace.
