

Don was born on Nov. 6, 1946 to Doris Robak Larry and Donald (Dominic) Larry. His father was recently honorably discharged from the army after serving in Europe in WWII. Don grew up in Melrose Park, Il. Don's father was a truck driver for Union Oil and sold flowers on the weekends with his father, Hank Larry and his son Don.
Don graduated from Proviso East in 1964. He was named a state all star pitcher that year. They wrote about one game that Don struck out 13 batters in one game. After high school, Don attended Western Michigan University, where he pulled his arm out. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1966. He served four years as a medic....his last two years in Alaska. He was honorably discharged and went back to school to pursue a degree in nursing. It was during this time he met his future wife, Peggy. They married in 1973. Don graduated from St. Xavier in August, 1974 just a couple weeks after the birth of Jason and moving to Glen Ellyn. Don worked at Hines Veteran Hospital for 25 years.
Don enjoyed watching trains and building HO scale model buildings...especially those from the 1800s and planning layouts. He was building a 1800's mining building and planning another layout for the garage while he was sick and home with care from Hospice. He also enjoyed playing golf and even rode in a cart last spring with his brother-in-law, Larry. Larry took Don several times during the last few months to lunch and to model train store for supplies.
Don also liked to travel and especially going on cruises. One of the most memorable trips was the one where we rented a van with Kitty, Tom, Bill and Stephanie and drove through Italy and Sicily. Others were driving through the Rockies with the boys, going on cruise to Alaska, and the Mediterranean Sea.
The one thing he said that he like the most was playing catch with his boys and his grandchildren. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their games and recitals.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy, his stepson Bill (Stephanie) his sons Jason and Brad(Amanda), His grandchildren Dominic, Ben, Allison and Kate,Cara and Anthony.
Don passed away at home on September 15 2021 from complication of multiple myeloma.
