Edward Neal Knez

Ed was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Paul A. Knez and Barbara Jane Rogers. He carried the grit and heart of his hometown with him throughout a life defined by service, integrity, and quiet strength.

Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant over a distinguished career. He served as the Headquarters Marine Corps Intelligence Liaison to the National Military Joint Intelligence Center (NMJIC) at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he played a key role in standing up a new U.S. Marine Corps office. His sharp analytical mind and trusted judgment led to him being personally selected to brief the Commandant of the Marine Corps on matters critical to the Corps. He also served on the Persian Gulf Veterans' Illness Task Force, contributing to the effort to understand and address the causes of Gulf War Illness — work that reflected his deep commitment to the wellbeing of his fellow service members.

But beneath the medals and the mission was a gentle soul — a man who led with quiet strength at work and boundless warmth at home. Ed was a devoted husband and a loving father figure, the kind of man whose presence made a house feel like home and whose steadiness made others feel safe.

Ed is survived by his wife, Judy Miller Knez, and his step children, Greg Myracle of Orange, VA, and Lesa Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Barbara Knez; his sister, Paula Knez Gregory of Chicago, IL; and his brother, William Eder of Spring Hill, FL.

Ed was, in every sense, a proud Marine — disciplined, honorable, and fiercely loyal to Corps and country. He was also, in every sense, a family man — patient, kind, and endlessly devoted to those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, and steady love that will continue to guide and comfort those who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, but he will remain forever in our hearts.
