George Raymond Scott, 76, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on December 26, 2018. He was born in Flint, Michigan on May 10, 1942. He was married to Diane Scott “Dee” on May 26, 2000. George graduated from Central Michigan University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Education and from Michigan State University where he earned a master of arts in Educational Leadership.
George’s career began at Cadillac High School in Cadillac, Michigan where he taught math and coached tennis, wrestling, and football. After teaching in Cadillac for several years, he took a position as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at DeWitt High School in DeWitt, Michigan. George concluded his career in the construction industry where he was a project manager.
George had a lifelong passion for tennis. He was an original member of the Cape Coral Racquet and Club (CCRC) where he captained the Lee County Men’s 50+ Red A Team and was previously the Division Manager. He also captained many USTA teams, but most importantly, during the four years he was on the executive committee he built the process that greatly facilitated the League’s operation. The Men’s 50+ Tennis League of Lee County will forever be indebted to his untiring efforts.
George adored his wife Dee, his children and grandchildren. He had a deep connection to his Native American heritage and lived his life with courage and gratitude.
George was preceded in death by his parents, James Scott and Germaine Cardinal and his daughter Dana Garland. He is survived by his wife Diane “Dee” Scott, daughters Sheryl Scott of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Lauryl Scott of Auburn Hills, Michigan, sons Mark Scott (LaTara) of Plano, Texas and Mike Garland (Kelli) of Eaton Rapids, Michigan and seven Grandchildren: Sean Cleary, Brendan Cleary, Liam Cleary, Sophie Beeckman, Aiden Scott, Ava Scott, and Troy Dailey.
A memorial service will take place at a future date.
