Jerry was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 11th, 1950 to Charles and Doris Schings. He graduated from Start High School in 1968 and joined the Navy shortly after graduating. Jerry served during the Vietnam war as an Aviation Electronics Technician leaving the military as a 3rd class petty officer.
After his service in the Navy Jerry studied electrical engineering at the University of Toledo. In August of 1974 he moved to Ft. Myers, Fl and started working for The Phone Company which later became Sprint and then CenturyLink. He enjoyed his work in telecommunications for 35 years where he made many lifelong friends and retired as a supervisor in the testing center.
After retirement Jerry kept busy by volunteering with the Cape Coral Police and chauffeuring his grandkids to school and sports. He spent most Monday nights helping make dinner for family night. Jerry helped his community volunteering and donated over 66 gallons of blood and platelets throughout his lifetime. His tireless devotion to family and country were evident to his final moments.
His family will be spreading his ashes at one of his favorite parks in Cape Coral in a private ceremony.
Jerry is survived buy his lifelong love Deborah and his two children Gerald Jr. “Jay”, Son Michael and his wife Candy; four grandchildren Dylan, Tara, Jordan and Justin; siblings James, Kathy, Teresa, Mike, Gordon and Karen; beloved parrot BJ and dog Brownie.
