Mr. Lowery; Thanks for being a fantastic and memorable teacher. I am thankful that nearly 20 years after 10th grade world history, I got to see you again. You're a great man and you helped to shape some of this town's finest young adults. Well done sir. You will be missed.

Dear Becki and family,
Although we only met a few times, I wanted to let you  know that Greg was an integral part of my teaching memories at Mariner High School.  

When the school opened in 1987, he and I were teaching Advanced Placement.  He would grumble and complain about students' faults and weaknesses, but as I worked with him I came to realize just how much he wanted our kids to succeed and be the best in their chosen profession.

He and Bill West used to sit with me for lunch and we'd discuss ways to spark that creative link to our sometimes totally irrelevant curriculum (after all, Shakespeare at 7 Am and the foibles of kings long dead just wasn't what a 17 year old wanted to hear).

Greg used many techniques to reach his students and many of them realized years later why he pushed them so much and why he was so demanding.

My heart goes out to your and your family.  Greg's grandchildren were his heart and soul - his eyes would light up when he pulled out their pictures.

May he - and his great buddy Bill - enjoy each other's company in God's kingdom.

Good bye my friend and golf partner for many years. I will miss you, but will golf again with you on GOD's course. Love you and we will also eat again at Bern's Steak House in the clouds.

Dear Becki and girls,

  I'm sad and heartbroken for you and the girls. Remembering your wedding and what a wonderful husband and father he was. I'm truly heartbroken for all of you.

My deepest thoughts, prayers and love are with the family.  May God comfort you all during this difficult time.

Greg you brought your family such deep love and understanding. We are all blessed to have known you on this earth.  Rest in peace now in the hands of our Lord.

Greg and I met in high school in 1965 and have been friends ever since.  Actually, more than friends, we were like brothers.  While home from school for the summer we would spend many a happy hour in the basement of his home on Jackson Street listening to music, drinking George's booze and eating the sandwiches Madge would make us. He was best man at our wedding. 

Greg liked making irreverent statements for their shock value, but underneath that veneer he was a very caring and loyal friend.  A whole new side of his personality developed after meeting Becki.  Those of us who knew him prior to meeting her probably never expected him to turn into such a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.  His grandchildren especially brought him a great deal of joy.

Rest well, my friend.  I'll miss the twinkle in your eye and the offered handshake when something—usually outrageous—was said with which you agreed.  I'll miss talking sports, politics, family and just about everything else with you.  Everyone you touched will now find a void in their lives, but you will live on in all of our memories.

You have been with Greg through it all, but no one can be truly prepared when the time comes.  

Take strength from knowing that he is no longer suffering and that the Lord loves him and all of you, and He will continue to hold you in the palm of his hand.

I am so sorry for Mr. Lowery's leaving us all too soon. Mr. Lowery was a phenomenal teacher. I believe I was lucky enough to get a class with him at Trafalgar Middle School in '95-96 and '97-98. The passion that Mr. Lowery brought to his classrooms and commitment he showed to reach each student were a true inspiration. He knew how to make history come alive, and his love for his work showed every day. 

Thank you so much for sharing him with us. May God bless, protect, and strengthen you all in this challenging time.

Becki, I am so sad to hear about Greg. He was such a great guy and loved you and the girls so much - right from the very start.  Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.  He will always be in your heart and memories. Take care my friend........

I have so many memories of Greg from our days at Trafalgar Middle School. We were both "curmudgeons" and Beatles fans. I will always remember his love and knowledge of history and his love of his family. Rest in Peace, my friend. I'm glad I had the privilege of knowing you.

Dear Becki and family..we are at a loss to tell you how saddened we are at Greg's passing.  He was so passionate about his family and let everyone know how proud he was of all of you.  He was passionate about EVERYTHING - being a teacher, his love of music, politics, his friends, LIFE! He was a bright spot in our lives and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Becki and family, I am deeply saddened by the death of my cousin. I will always remember the last visit with you guys before his illness. I just know that he is with Uncle George,Uncle John and Uncle Vernon playing pinochle and arguing about who took the bid! I am thinking about you all and send my love and prayers.

I had the great privilege and joy of teaching Greg at Indiana University. Hee was energetic, full of life, and always compassionate.  I am sure he was a legendary teacher.  I send my deepest sympathy to Becki and all of the family.  This is an incredible loss to all who knew Greg.

Becki and girls, I am so sorry for the passing of Greg. I think of you guys often even tho it has been almost 13 yrs since I have seen you. Stay close to one another in the coming days and take one day at a time. I will be thinking of all of you in spirit. May God wrap his arms around you all and give you comfort to know that Greg is no longer in pain.

Mr. Lowery was my high school history class, and when I left Mariner I did not know that he would re-enter my life a couple of years later through Melissa. It had been several years, but he still knew my first name. It is often through the eyes of another that you are able to see who someone truly is. It was through his daughter Melissa's eyes that I would see who he was beyond his role as a history teacher. I saw his love of music, his wit, his heart, and most importantly his love for his family. There was that extra sparkle in his eyes when he talked about his family, especially his grandchildren. My last conversation with him was at Danny's 4th birthday party and he shared with me how much he loved every single one of his grandchildren. His face beamed as he spoke. I am grateful to God for his influence on his family, and they are blessed to have had him in their lives.

Heaven has gained an Angel. He will be with you through all of your major life events with the best seat in the house. May God watch over your family during this difficult time and provide you with extra strength as you say goodbye to your husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Forever with God, forever in your hearts.

My deeepest sympathies to your entire family at this difficult time.  Cherish the memories forever.

Those of us who knew Greg during his bachelor student days at IU were surprised when he chose to marry into instant family. But his great love for Becki, Kim, Melissa and Angela became apparent to everyone, as did the profound joy he received in return as a husband, father and grandfather. Greg also held his parents, brother and friends close to his heart. His was a life well lived.
