Harold Allen Parker

August 23, 1948December 23, 2012

Harold Allen (Harry) Parker, 64, of North Ft. Myers passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 with his family by his side after a brief bout with a brain tumor. Harry was born August 23, 1948 in Taylorville, IL to Harvey and Lorene (Sanders) Parker. He grew up in Kincaid and Taylorville, IL playing baseball, football, running cross country and fishing. Harry proudly served in the US Army as a clerk typist and was stationed at Arlington Hall Station in VA where he met his best friend and the love of his life, Paddi Cumiskey. After his return from his tour of duty in Vietnam and discharge from the Army, Harry and Paddi were married in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, MN on February 27, 1971. They moved to Tulsa, OK where Harry attended Tulsa University on the GI Bill and graduated with a degree in accounting. He began work with Public Service Company of Oklahoma and its parent company Central and Southwest. After living in Tulsa and Jenks, OK for 25 years, Harry was transferred to Dallas, TX where he lived for 7 years until he retired after 27 years from American Electric Company, the successor company to Central and Southwest in 2003 and moved to North Ft. Myers, FL. Harry enjoyed fishing and working in his yard including raising avocado trees from seeds. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, his “angel babies”, fishing, playing ball and playing with them. He was a member of the American Legion and the Church of the Great Outdoors. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 41+ years Paddi; 2 sons Paxton Allen (Carrie) of Little Elm, TX and Dustin Allen (Debi) of Cape Coral, FL; 5 grandchildren Ronin Allen, Gannon Allen, Isabella Mae, Caelan Allen and Maggie Ann; 2 sisters Peggy Wadkins and Marcia Maag; brothers Jerry (Nancy) and Bob (Jane); sister-in-law Linda Parker Canale and numerous nieces and nephews including his special nephew Terry Wadkins who helped care for Harry during his illness. Harry is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Tommy. Per his wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy., Cape Coral, FL 33909 or to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (nchv.org). Harry will be sorely missed. He was a genuinely good, caring husband, Dad, Paw Paw and friend.

Dear Parker Family,
I read of your dear Harold in the Tulsa World. I didn't know him but felt that I could have. He reminds me of my sweet father who passed away after a short and terrible battle with a brain tumor this year. (My dad, Gary Hayhurst, diagnosed in February and passed away in September.) He was the life and soul of our family and died too soon like your dear dad. My dad had just turned 66 ,and he was loving life! I know my dad had no greater joy than his 2 grandbabies so my heart is sad for your 5. I just wanted you to know that a family you don't know in Tulsa and Eureka Springs, AR is thinking of you and holding you in our hearts and prayers. I hope dad has been part of the welcoming committee in heaven for Harry. My dad was a minister so maybe he is going with Harry to the Church of the Great Outdoors now. :)
Our families were fortunate to have such great men leading the parade in life. I feel for your loss. I look forward to meeting Harry and seeing my pop again. My mother is thinking of you Paddi. She and my dad were married 46 years so she knows your hurt heart. I pray the burden gets lighter and that joyful memories of your husband, dad, and paw paw fill your hearts.

Paddi: I was shocked when De'Ette e-mailed me about Harry's passing. My prayers are with you, Paxton and Dustin. I have nothing but good memories of Harry. Of course, I have to sign this as your "Indian" friend!

Paddi - My condolences on your loss. I have many happy memories of the years Harry and I worked together at PSO (1988-1992). I appreciated not only his knowledge and professionalism, but also his sense of humor. Working with him was always a pleasure.
