Helen Ruth Simcoe Groves

Helen Ruth Simcoe Groves died peacefully in her home on Saturday, October 4, 2014. She resided in Cape Coral, Florida. Helen was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She is known for a successful career as a Real Estate Broker and more importantly for raising a large family with grace, affection, discipline and a strong work ethic.

Helen was born in Van Etten, New York where she met the love of her life, Gerald Groves while attending high school. Helen and Gerry were married on Valentine’s Day 1949 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past year. She was the help mate for Groves Construction Company for many years and then became a Real Estate Broker with Groves Real Estate of Staatsburg, NY.

Upon retirement Helen moved to Cape Coral where she volunteered in the Cape Coral Hospital Emergency Room. Later Helen continued her volunteering at the Cape Coral Hospital Thrift Shop. She put a lot of effort into securing new merchandise for the shop and was a beloved member of their team. Helen put in 15 years of service for Cape Coral Hospital and logged over 3,000 hours. Helen was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral.

Helen is survived by her husband, Gerald Groves and six of her children: Gregory (Maria) Groves of Gambrills, Maryland; Jerrilee (Paul) Relyea of Rhinebeck, New York; Shawn (Abeda) Groves of Leesburg, Virginia; Eryn (Lawrence) McAuliffe of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Kelly (Cora) Groves of Lehigh, Florida and Colleen (Walter Avery) Groves of Cape Coral, Florida. Helen was predeceased by her son Jeffrey (Sarah Sholes) Groves of Staatsburg, New York. Helen and Gerry have 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to The National Kidney Foundation. Please visit www.coralridgefuneralhome.com to leave thoughts and memories for her family.
