Joan K. Haynes

Joan K. Haynes died on August 26, 2021. She leaves her husband Robert of 37 years, son John Bean, sisters Mary (Terry) Moody, Kathy (Tom) Tetro and Penny Spugnardi, nephews Rich (Bonnie) Spugnardi, Jeff (Indu) Spugnardi and a niece Ann Waddell, grandnephews Tim Waddell, Christian Spugnardi and grandnieces Caroline Spugnardi, Tori Spugnardi, and Sophia Spugnardi. Beloved friends Chris Blackwell, Diane Siebert, Karen and Dennis Baldger, Pamela and Logan King.

She was an entrepreneur as owner and president of Lippe’s Package (Liquor) Store in Southbridge MA. She and Bob retired in 2000 and moved to Cape Coral. They were very active in the Elks Club for 11 years. Joan served as vice president and past president of Ladies of the Elks. They enjoyed the Italian American Club’s dinner and dancing and made many friends.

Joan had a wonderful sense of humor and she could tell a good story. She could imitate Katherine Hepburn. Thrift Shops and Garage Sales were a treasure hunt for her. She collected tea pots and China. She enjoyed mah-jongg and card games. Joan also enjoyed reading and had two dogs named Shelley and Dickens.

When she & Bob decided to downsize, they met Chris Blackwell and Diane Siebert who bought their home. They became best friends. When Hurricane Irma roared in, Chris and Diane implored Joan and Bob to join them in their RV and they enjoyed a road trip to New Orleans. Joan and Karen were in craft groups and helped paint the Ft. Myers Beach Library. Joan loved the beach and she and Karen spent many days shelling on Florida beaches.

Joan used to tell the story that she was born 5 minutes after midnight on January 31, 1940 missing FDR’s birthday by 5 minutes. Her Mother loved FDR and wanted Joan to share his birthday. She came so close. Her birthday celebrations lasted the entire month of January and she enjoyed wearing her special tiara.

When you were with Joan you had a good time because she truly cared for you.

She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Church in Cape Coral. Mass will be held on September 2nd at 11:00 am.
