Our loving father, John Charles Bishop, has entered into the glorious presence of our heavenly Father having died peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2021. His was a long and rewarding life for which we give thanks. We also rejoice that he is reunited with our mother, Marie Elana, his beloved wife of 27 years, whom he longed for since her passing in 1992.
John was a native Floridian who married a girl from Memphis and raised a happy family in the Delta. But the sandy soil and Gulf air of Southwest Florida drew him back as soon as he could get there, and he lived his golden years happily in the hometown he adored. He was a Marine Corps veteran who dutifully served our country for six years and was a patriot until the day he died.
Now, no description of Dad's life would be complete without mentioning his absolute devotion to the University of Florida Gators. Without question, he was their #1 fan for 77 years! GO GATORS!
John leaves behind his devoted sister & niece Jean Schmitt & Dana Schmitt; his grateful children Chris (Tanya), Christy Blackard (David), Nick (Michele), and Nicole Nichols (Jim); grandchildren McKayla, Krista, Lenox, Marie Elana, Blaine, Danielle, Ryan, Grant & Henry.
Dad was a gentle and quiet man who endeared himself to all. We will greatly miss him and forever cherish his memory. In lieu of flowers and as a nod to John, please show God's loving-kindness to a stranger, offer support to a friend, cheer on the Gators or donate to the charity of your choice.
We gathered in Florida with immediate family and will get together with friends and family in Memphis at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Coral Ridge Funeral Home, Cape Coral. Please visit online guestbook to leave memories. www.CoralRidgeFuneralHome.com
