
John R. Sholtis, Sr., 81, of North Ft. Myers, FL passed away Monday, September 29, 2014. Born September 7, 1933 in Hazleton, PA to John and Mary (nee Podrazik), John graduated from HS and served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer USS Johnston during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. John attended college at The Pennsylvania State University (Hazleton Campus), worked at General Electric and shortly thereafter moved to Endicott, NY. He worked at International Business Machines (IBM) in an engineering and management capacity spanning 35 years. John led a very active life. He bowled, golfed and was a member of the IBM pistol team and photography club. He was also an active father coaching his son’s baseball teams. He enjoyed spending the summers boating on Cayuga Lake where he made many lifelong friends. Upon retirement, John and Donata moved to North Ft. Myers where he was an avid golfer shooting no less than 5” holes in ones”. He was a member of the Ft. Myers amateur radio and CERT clubs. For the last 14 years, John receive fulfillment volunteering his time at the Ft. Myers VA clinic where he made great friends and helped countless fellow veterans with their health care needs.
John is survived by his beautiful and beloved wife of 57 years, Donata (nee Wroblewski); 2 loving sons John, Jr. (Sandra) of Marlborough, CT and David (Cathy) of Chicago, IL; 3 cherished grandchildren Alexandra, Dawson and Meaghan; dear sister Mae Rock (Sholtis) and several nieces and nephews.
An inurnment with military honors will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 25th at Coral Ridge Cemetery, Cape Coral, FL.
