Judith Simpson Maglione

Judith Ellen (Simpson) Maglione, 64, of Cape Coral Florida passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She was born in Boston Massachusetts to John Boone and Dorothy(Porteri)Simpson. A 1982 graduate of Boston University, Judy had a long and decorated career as a broadcast journalist. Much of her career was spent in the Burlington Vermont/Plattsburgh New York market. She was a morning cut in anchor, reporter, and 6pm anchor at WVNY-TV, the ABC affiliate from 1985-1993 where she also became the first female news director in Vermont Broadcast history. After taking a few years off to raise her children, she joined WCAX-TV as a reporter. She was then promoted to Morning News anchor, where she revolutionized morning TV in the market. Thousands of families grew up watching her special brand of Morning News-complete with live music, cooking demonstrations, fashion shows, all while injecting her quick wit and charming personality to help people start their day. Her 10 year run produced unprecedented rating success. Judy also hosted the longest running locally produced talk show in Broadcast history, Across The Fence in conjunction with the University of Vermont Extension Service. She’s a recipient of the Vermont Association of Broadcasters Distinguished Service award, and is a member of the Vermont Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Judy leaves behind her husband of 38 years Phil of Cape Coral Florida, her son Alex and his partner Jordan of Brentwood Tennessee, and her daughter Liz and her husband Jake of Pensacola Florida. She also leaves her brother Steve and his wife Kathy of Stow Massachusetts, and her sister Laura of Westborough Massachusetts. She is also survived by her three grandchildren-Will, Leo, and Jalen, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents John and Dorothy. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Judy’s name to the University of Vermont Extension Service and the Southwest Florida Horse Rescue.
