It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Leroy “Lee” Aberle Sr. Though he was fighting lung cancer, his death came sudden due to pneumonia. He passed peacefully at Hope Hospice Cape Coral, FL with his entire family by his side. Lee was born and raised in Queens, NY. In his youth speed skating was his favorite thing to do and was so good at it, that he made it all the way to the finals of the Olympic trials, skating that race in Madison Square Garden, New York City. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1952 and married his lovely bride Rose, June 6, 1954. For a short while they lived in Valley Stream, NY, then settling in West Hempstead, NY. There is where he raised his 4 children. He was a great dad who was very active in his children’s lives. He was a coach and commissioner of the West Hempstead Little League, and in 1968 took them all the way to Williamsport, PA to the Little League World Series. In 1986 he was given the “Citizen of the Year” award, from the New York City Police Dept. being recognized for his charitable contributions. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a Master Mason in good standing, a member of Lodge number 362. He was quick witted and fun, a very caring and compassionate man, a friend to everyone he met. He was very in tuned with nature, always watering his flowers, feeding the birds and owned many different kinds of animals threw out his lifetime. He taught us compassion, not just for his fellow man, but for all living creatures. To his many friends he will be sorrowfully and sadly missed, and to his family, he was the rock and the blessing that will sustain them. I know most of you knew this man a lot longer than I did or my employees. However, Lee walked into my deli about 9 years ago after my first year of being opened. Honestly, he was in after the first visit, about 5 to 6 days a week. I got to know him very well as we had many discussions about all things concerning life. I knew him as a kind, caring and consoling man. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone, (including some who owed him money). I shared many personal problems with him concerning children, he always had some good words to say and he NEVER judged anyone. Lee would walk into my store, dump truck parked outside, very early and always greet my employees with a smile and a good word. If I did not see Lee for a number of days I would call him to make sure he was okay.
We knew he was sick and what he had recently been up against. However we did not expect him to leave us so soon.
Lee, we miss you pal......here's a Salt bagel, scooped out with cream cheese, tomato, open face for you. Watch over all of us please.

June 8th I had to say goodbye to my hero, my #1 fan, my pop. In his eyes I could do no wrong; I was his world and boy was he mine. I adored this man more than life itself. The memories I have with him are ones I will cherish forever. He was my everything and my heart tugs more than anyone will ever know. My pop was such a kind, gentle and giving man with a heart of gold. Heaven gained the greatest angel, I know that when I get married and have children he will be watching over me and will continue to be my protector. Up until he took his last breathe; I told him “ I love you pop” and he responded back with tears in his eyes “ I love you too” I never let go of his hand and then he passed away. I am thankful I got to be there with him when he rose to be with god. He is now out of pain and suffering & in a better place. Although I know death is a part of life it’s never easy saying goodbye. Pop you will be missed so very much. I love you we’ll meet again one day; rest easy.😭💔🙏🏼
