Lonnell Salone, Msgt USAF retired, 74 of Cape Coral, Florida passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021. He was born on December 2, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert Lee Salone and Gladys Mae (nee: Hill) Salone. Lonnell married Valerie Whitworth on January 14, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lonnell served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He moved to Cape Coral in 2007. Following his retirement, Lonnell became a transportation engineer building mono-rails. Lonnell enjoyed; bowling, fishing, coin collecting, Jaguar cars, traveling, a nice scotch, and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 43 years, Valerie Salone; children, Darrell Salone, Sonya Salone, Samantha Salone, all of Cape Coral, and Jeffrey Salone of Nellis Air Force Base, NV; six grandchildren, Elyse, Samara, Elli, Stephan, Jeffrey Jr, Natalia; sisters, Gwen and Bobbie; and many extended family members and friends. Memorial Services will begin at 2:00pm on Friday, May 7th at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force. When I think of Lonnie I always remember his lovely open smile. He was always relaxed happy and generous.
He shared a love of Jaguar cars with my husband Jon. A memory that always makes me smile is when Val and Lonnie lived in Bentwaters and he owned a silver Mk11 Jaguar. One afternoon he was happily polishing his Jag with one of Vals best bath towels,
He was as highly polished as that Jag.
A loving husband to my sister Val and a fantastic roll model to Darrell, Sonya, Samantha Jeffrey and all the grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by us all. We were honoured to have known him.

Dear my very first beloved Father in-law Lon,

Words cannot explain the pain I felt when hearing the sad news that you’re no longer here on earth, God has truly gained an Angel! I immediately thought about Val, all of your children and grandchildren. My heart filled with sympathy as I showered my condolences in prayer. You were such a phenomenal man.

I met you when I was 15 years old. You were such a stern, hard-working, loving, strong man that dedicated your time and efforts to work and family. Needless to say, You loved Val and your children with all your heart. I witnessed your overall happiness, just to see you complete when gathering all your children and grandchildren together under one roof. Family meant so much to you. My first vacation was to Indiana to visit you and Val, my first time fishing was you teaching me, and I will forever remember every single memory I encountered with you.

I see so much of you in my son Jeffrey; his intelligence, his sarcasm, his brilliance and independence.. you passed down so much greatness and so many traits. He loves you very much Lon. We looked forward to our Florida road trips to see you and grandma when we lived in Georgia, in addition to yearly vacations Jeffrey continued to spend with you and Val for the summer when he and I moved back to New Jersey. I never had to question your dedication for my son and I thank you and will forever love you very much for that. You would always ask Jeffrey how I was doing, and I could hear you in the background “Tell your mom that I said hi”.

Your legacy will continue to grow within your beautiful family and I am so blessed that I had the opportunity for many years to be apart of it. I wish I could have made you 1 more pan of my baked Mac and Cheese that you loved so much. My heart is shattered and I will continue to pray for your entire family. Thank you for being the best Grandpa to my son Jeffrey Jr. ♥️

Ever since I was young, I could always see that you saw my potential. Whether it was helping me with math homework or asking about what I liked to write about, you were always there to support me. You are the strongest man I've ever known. Thank you for showing me what it means to be a man and giving me every opportunity to be successful in life. Though I will never be able to express how grateful I am for you, thank you so much for always being there for me and our family. I miss you dearly.

I have known you only a short time, but in that time we have shared time together you have taught me to never give up. You never gave up on your family and that speaks volumes to everyone who has had the chance to be blessed by your presence. You have created a beautiful family and I will be there for them forever. I miss walking into your house greeting you “hello Sir!” I was a bit timid when Sonya invited me over to meet you, but you quickly became one of my favorite people in the world.
