

Peggy was born and raised in Roslyn Harbor, NY and graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1979 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Soon afterward, she continued her artistic studies in New York City and traveled to Italy to further hone her craft. Peggy met her beloved husband, John, in Malta, NY, and they were married on September 20, 1997, in Peconic, NY. Together they moved to Punta Gorda, FL, in 2003 and established their lifelong home in Bokeelia in 2006. Shortly thereafter, Peggy began working at the Tarpon Lodge, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Peggy lived a life defined by compassion, strength, unwavering kindness, and generosity. She always put others before herself and had a deep devotion to her family. Her warmth, selflessness, quick wit, and beautiful smile touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. A gifted artist, Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and exceptional creativity. She generously shared her talents with others, often mentoring fellow artists and guiding them with advice on shading, perspective, and the finer details that brought art to life.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Marilyn and George Hofmann; her brother, Stephen Hofmann; and her loving husband, John D. Leather.
She was a devoted sister to Kathy Stupak and Maryann Herrick, and the three shared more than thirty-three years of cherished, fun-filled sister weekends.
She is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Jim) Stupak and Maryann (Dean) Herrick; twelve beloved nieces and nephews; her sister-in-laws, Jeanne Hofmann, Lynn (Tom) LeCours; and her in-laws, Sue and Dan Leather.
