Born on November 20, 1942, in Potomac, Illinois, Kelly was the cherished daughter of the late John and Alma Layton. She grew up with a strong sense of family and community, values that guided her throughout her life.
In 2003, Kelly married her beloved husband, Steve, and together they shared 22 wonderfully adventurous years. Their marriage was filled with joy, laughter, and countless memories. They delighted in attending home shows and antiquing, enjoyed movie nights and dinner dates, and in 2010 embarked on a grand motorhome journey that took them across the country. From the beauty of San Francisco to the mountains of Colorado and the coasts of Oregon, Kelly treasured every mile of their travels.
Kelly’s warmth extended beyond her adventures. She cherished lunches with her girlfriends, found joy in caring for her dogs and cat, and most of all, loved spending time with her family. Her greatest pride was being a grandmother, a role she embraced with boundless love and devotion.
Kelly will be remembered for her kind spirit, her adventurous heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel valued and loved. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created and the family she adored. She was preceded in death by her father, John Layton; mother, Alma Layton; and brother, Gene Layton.
Kelly is survived by her loving husband, Steve; daughter, Terri Cristaldi (Steve); son, Bob Wilenius (Melissa); stepdaughters, Melissa and Stephanie; along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
