Marilyn Ann Hotaling

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Hotaling, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Marilyn was the only child born to the late Harold and Gertrude (Shields) Short on September 12, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. Marilyn passed away surrounded by her family in Cape Coral, Florida on May 23, 2023, (age 21) leaving a legacy of love and kindness behind her. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Wesley J Hotaling Sr, daughter Marilyn Hotaling (Gary) of Cordele, GA, two sons Wesley Hotaling of Orlando, FL and Christopher Hotaling (Ana) of Cape Coral, FL, six grandchildren Nicole Nesbitt (Will), Shannon Hotaling, Sheena Hotaling, Brian Hotaling (Bethany), Brandon Hotaling (Courtney), and Sabrina Hotaling (Brandon “Rosie”), and eight great grandchildren. Marilyn was a vibrant and passionate woman who loved unconditionally and lived life on her own terms. Everyone who met her loved her energetic and spitfire personality. She met the love of her life, Wesley J Hotaling, and they were married on October 17th, 1960. Their marriage was reaffirmed October 17th 1962. Their love was enduring and they remained devoted to each other throughout their lives. Marilyn’s family and friends were always entertained by the “dumb actions” and embarrassing events that frequently occurred when she was around. She was not blessed with grace, but instead a great sense of humor especially at the expense of someone else. The only thing greater than Marilyn’s love for her family was her love of chocolate. Marilyn was a mom, a Granny, and a best friend to everyone. She was Wes’ world and the love of his life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, as well as the countless acquaintances whose lives she touched in meaningful ways. Marilyn was a shining example of what it means to live a life of love and compassion, and her memory will continue to inspire us all. A visitation for Marilyn will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM at Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery, 950 Chiquita Blvd. S, Cape Coral, FL 33991.
