

Mary A. Hatcher of Cypress Cove, Fort Myers, FL passed away January 23, 2012 in Fort Myers. Mary, the daughter of James F. and Ruby Hatcher, was born June 17, 1922 in Champaign, IL.. Mary graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD in 1940 and the University of Illinois with B. S. degree in Education in 1944. She earned a Master's Degree in elementary education from Southern Illinois University in 1959.
Mary taught in many elementary schools in Illinois before moving to Lee County in 1960 where she taught in Lee County schools, until her retirement from Cape Elementary in 1986. Mary was a member of Cypress Lake United Methodist Women, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Homemakers, American Sewing Guild and Lee County Retired Educators. Her passion was sewing. Recently she was making pillow case dresses for the mission work of Cypress Lake UMC. She also made caps for the children with cancer in the Lee Memorial Hospital System.
Mary is survived by her sister, Grace H. Talcott of Fort Myers, nephews James (Connie) Talcott of Greensboro, NC and Michael Talcott of Fort Myers.
A Memorial service will be held at Cypress Lake United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 4th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fund for Education Scholarships at Cypress Lake UMC or to Cypress Cove for the upkeep of their Memorial Garden.
