Michael Skinder 80, was born to Igancy and Janina Skinder in Pre-World War II Poland, the eldest of three children. After growing up in war-torn Europe, Michael immigrated with his parents and siblings to the United States shortly after the War. Michael met his wife Nada, also an immigrant from Europe after the War, and got married in 1958. Michael and Nada had two children: daughter Helen and son Richard. The family of four moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 1968 and remain in the area today. Michael was founder and owner of one of the first custom cabinet-making businesses in Cape Coral, bringing old world craftsmanship and quality to the homes and shops of Southwest Florida. Many of his friends will know Michael and Nada were life long members of the German American Social Club of Cape Coral, where a bar made by Michael still serves members today in the Edelweiss Hall. In his spare time, Michael loved to travel the world with friends and family – frequently cruising the Caribbean and exploring Europe. In 2011 Nada passed away after a brief illness, to the great bereavement of Michael and the rest of his family. After battling some of his own medical circumstances, Michael peacefully joined his wife on July 27, 2014 following a routine operation. Michael is survived by his children Helen Skinder (Norman) Ramey and Richard Michael Skinder, two grandsons Eric Michael Skinder and Kyle Michael Ramey, siblings Mario (Lora) Skinder and Maria (Mario) Lechich, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held in Coral Ridge Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31 from 4:30 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St Andrew Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery, Cape Coral.
