Nancy Kay Day’s story began on Independence Day, July 4, 1944, in Gregory, South Dakota—a fitting start for a woman whose life would be defined by warmth, spirit, and a deep love of country, family, and celebration. On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the age of 81, Nancy passed away in Cape Coral, Florida, leaving behind a legacy woven from devotion, creativity, and joy.
Nancy was, above all else, a deeply devoted wife. For 60 years, she shared a loving partnership with her husband, Lawrence Wesley Day Jr.—a marriage built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they created a home filled with love, tradition, and countless cherished memories.
She was a proud and loving mother to Christopher Day, Steven Day, and Amy Foresman, and an extraordinary grandmother to nine grandchildren: Kelsey and Jenna Day; Matthew, Joshua, and Emma Foresman; Brandon and Nicolas Canino; and Katelyn and Spencer Day. Nancy embraced her role as “Grammy” with enthusiasm and delight—she was the kind of grandmother who made every moment feel like a celebration. Whether it was a holiday, a birthday, or simply an ordinary afternoon, Nancy had a way of making it special, often with laughter, thoughtful touches, and her signature sparkle.
That sparkle was most literally felt in the handmade cards she lovingly created. Nancy had a creative spirit that shone through her scrapbooking and card-making, each piece crafted with care and always—without fail—sprinkled with a bit of confetti. Her children and grandchildren came to expect that joyful surprise, a small but perfect reflection of who she was: thoughtful, whimsical, and full of life.
Nancy’s vibrant personality extended far beyond her family. She was an active and engaged member of her community, participating in organizations such as 4-H, the Officers’ Wives Club, the Red Cross, Tuesday Coffee Club, Rummy Club, and Red Hat Society. She built lasting friendships wherever she went, bringing people together with her kindness, humor, and genuine interest in others.
She is also survived by her father, Robert Jonas, and sisters, Bobi Legner, Karen Morris-Rogers, and Linda Mason.
Nancy’s love extended to every corner of her life, including her cherished Westland Terrier, Kenzie. Kenzie was more than a pet—she was a constant companion and a source of daily joy. Nancy delighted in spoiling her, taking her on walks, and caring for her with the same tenderness she gave so freely to everyone around her.
Nancy’s patriotism, joyful spirit, and love for people made her truly one of a kind. She lived her life with intention—celebrating the little things, nurturing her relationships, and always finding ways to create beauty and connection.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Nancy Day’s name to Fisher House Foundation, honoring her spirit of generosity and service.
Nancy’s life was a story of love, laughter, and confetti—bright, unexpected, and unforgettable. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
