I just found out. I had Mr Hogan for music in 7th and 8th grades and became very close friends with him and his wife Judy. I remember having dinner with them on numerous occasions, I loved her mashed potatoes! Mr Hogan became much more than a teacher to me, a friend and mentor despite the 16-year age difference. I remember one week before graduation in my 8th grade year, Mr Hogan sent me home with a tuba, told me to learn how to play it, and I played in the commencement. I'm not sure how many of the notes I got right though! Judy, if you see this, many thanks to you both for the loving attention.

This is a great loss.  I have great memories of the years I spent in band with Mr. Hogan as my teacher.  He always pushed us to make sure we were doing our best and asked why in the world I was taking typing instead of band my Senior year. They were the same hour and couldn't take both. That was not a good enough excuse.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  He will be missed!!

Mr. Hogan was one of my favorite teachers.  I have so many great memories of him.  He truly cared for the students.  Very sad to hear about his passing.

As a Class of '83 graduate of Junction City High School, I am greatly saddened to hear of Mr. Hogan's passing.  Mr. Hogan was a joy to have as a Band Director. His enthusiasm for his job, music, and his students truly impacted me. He will be missed.

I am saddened to hear of your family's loss.  Mr. Hogan was my band teacher in 5th and 6th grade and taught me to play the saxophone. I cherish the time I had with Norman in my life, I wish it had been longer. Norman was such a bright light, he kept me laughing and always thinking, such a love for humanity. He will be missed.

Mr. Hogan was one of my favorite teachers! He had a sense of humor yet knew how to challenge us to do our best! RIP

Mr. Hogan taught me how to play clarinet.  Many thought that because my dad was a band director, HE taught me.  But it was Mr. Hogan.  I can still remember him showing me how to curl my lower lip under when I put my mouth on the clarinet.  And in later years, I played in pit orchestra's under his direction at JCHS or with him as fellow clarinetists at Little Theater.  But what I remember most about him is his smile.  He had a smile that lit up his eyes and I swear it stretched all the way to the top of his head!  Mr. Hogan was a wonderful, wonderful man.  Blessings to all of you and may God's hand of peace enfold you all.

I was in marching band and jazz band under Mr. Hogan. He had a sly sense of humor, liking to refer to lackluster performance as "half-fast", very carefully pronounced.
I took saxophone lessons from him, but we got sidetracked by the games he'd programmed on his computer to the point that sometimes the lesson never happened. Even my dad got drawn into it one evening.

Playing Oh Hell will never be the same.  I loved our late nights of pure craziness! Norm had such a kind, generous and loving heart.  I will forever be grateful to Norm and Judy for not only loving my sister like a daughter but taking care of my mom in her time of need.  Norm provided us with great stories and great laughs...he will be truly missed.  Love to all his family and friends.

You will always be remembered as one of my favorite band instructors! We had an awesome Drumline and I am proud to be part of it! I'll never forget drumming in the pit under your direction for Guys and Dolls and George M. I can still hear how you always greeted me 35 years ago as "Hi Guy!"

I met Norm when he and Bill were working on their Master's at Emporia.  Bill  had so many funny stories to tell about him and they were all true.  I knew the first time I met him that he was a happy man who loved to laugh.  Both of these men had such a respect for good music, hard work in the classroom and enjoyed teaching kids.  That's a good legacy too.  Jan Cooper.

Enjoyed his jokes. Enjoyed his outlook on life. Enjoyed the humanity. Enjoyed the person. The world will miss him.

A great man. A great band director. He taught me so much.

Great great man.   He raised two fine sons.  He'll be missed.   One last time.  No CHEESE!

Erik - I have such wonderful memories of your family, and Nathan spending time at your house.  Joel and I are so very sorry to learn of his death.  Know that we will keep you and the family in our prayers.
