

Born November 28,1939 in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Catherine “Jerry” Hughes and James Gayland Hughes.
Pat was a loving wife, mother, and Meme. She lived and raised her family in Newark, Ohio where she was a constant chauffeur for all her children’s activities. She could always be found on the sidelines of every sporting event for each child. She and Frank moved to Cape Coral, FL in 1996. Pat loved the Florida warmth and sunshine and enjoyed being outside often. Pat’s love of gardening brought her great joy. She spent many hours tending to her beautiful orchids. Pat also had a great love for music. She was an active member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and St. Francis De Sales choirs. She spent hours learning to play keyboard and loved to listen to country music in her home. Pat was an active member of her Emerald Cove community.
Pat was a 1957 graduate of St. Vincent De Paul H.S. She was a proud sorority member of Beta Sigma Phi where she was named girl of the year over multiple years for her outstanding community service.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, James Robert (Bob) Young.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Franklin Henry Mathias; 5 children, Robert L. Young (Margaret), Deborah A. Parker (Todd), Jeffrey L. Young (Tera), Kimberly A. Young, and Catherine A. Steiff (Keith); 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren ;2 sisters, Shirley Clark (John) and Catherine Gough; 2 brothers Jim Hughes (Dorthy) and Brett Hughes (Danielle).
A Memorial Mass will be held on March 10, 2025 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home. Gathering of family and friends 10:00 am. Graveside service at 11:00 am.
