It was with deep sadness that I just received the news of Rev. Richard "Dick" Osberg's homegoing. We have the sadness & he has rich eternal joy. I first met him in my freshman year at Huntington College in the fall of 1973. He was a teriffic Christian Education professor and Director of Religious Life on campus. I had him as one of my professors for about every semester for all 5 years. He has left a lasting impression upon me & helped me in my spiritual growth during that time & I will never forget the fun times we had both inside & outside the classroom. I was glad that he was able to come & address the Annual Conference one year when Richard Kohl was Bishop. I have many fond memories of him as well as of you as a family. I know that we will meet again in God's kingdom. May our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, God of all comfort, comfort you & bless you.

When I arrived at Huntington College in the fall of 1980, Dick Osberg was the previous Director of Religious Life.  What an honor to follow such a Godly, caring gentleman.  He was a wonderful role model for me in the early years of my academic career.  I will not forget his energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to our Savior.  I am saddened by his passing; I pray for the God of all comfort to bring peace and comfort to his family; and I know he is resting in the presence of Jesus.  Well done, good and faithful servant.

Dear Bev and Family-We send our love and sympathy to you.  During the past few days so many WONDERFUL memories of times spent together have flooded our minds.  Deaner remembers you, Bev, as his"other Mom".  We remember so many stories that Dad told us about his relationship to Dick.  What fun Glen, Geneva and Dick must be having now.  We both remember convertible rides, spending time in the pool, sharing produce from the garden, learning so much from Dick at First Church, and time spent with you in Florida. Our love, prayers and thoughts are with you.  We just wish we lived closer so we could share a big hug.

We were so sad to receive the news of Rev Osberg's passing.  I don't even know where to begin my wonderful memories of all of you, from Bethel church parsonage being locked in the dark bathroom in the playroom by Dennis and Rick to camping at Hanson's Hideway together as families and then Rock River Bible Camp, which is a lifetime of memories all on it's own.  The time at Huntington College for Randy with Rev Osberg is full and wonderful memories as well.  Your family will always hold a very special place in our hearts.  May God hold you all in the palm of His hand during this most difficult time.  I'm sure Dad and Dick have been having some wonderful times in heaven together again. Dear Osbergs, my mind is full of images of Dr. Osberg from HC days - 35 years ago.  No one I have met since engaged as fully with people in conversation as he did.  His face burst with enthusiasm and energy when you spoke with him.  Much of my spiritual formation occured because of the chapel services that Dr. Osberg planned.  What an incredible lineup of great communicators he put together - week after week for years!  Mrs. Osberg, your generosity in taking me into your home the last weeks of my senior year when I had lost housing is overwhelming.  It wasn't until I was older and had a job and family of my own that I understood what a sacrifice that was for all of you.  Rev. Richard Osberg was a man of character and goodness.  I admire him and am pleased to say that his influence changed my life in significant ways.  Thanks be to God for his life well lived.

Bev, We are saddened to hear of Dick's passing but know the angels are rejoicing to have him home.  We pray that God will wrap His arms around you and hold you close as you adjust to his loss.

Bev and family,  There are so many things I could write about you and Dick and the joys we had with you.  He was our first pastor after moving back to IL and I will always treasure our times with you at Dixon Bethel.  We loved you and you loved our children and us.  We had a grand and glorious relationship.  AND we will see him again.  Praise the Lord for that.  You are in my prayers Bev.  I am so glad we got down to see you last spring. I am sorry not to be able to be there for your time of grief.  I thank God my path crossed with Dick Osberg.  He was my gateway to the EC Church.  His infectious passion for Christ touched my life in those student days.  I was blessed when he pastored the church of one of my cousins in Columbia City another connection.   I know he will be missed.  May God walk with you all as you enter this time of grief.

 Please know that we are praying for your family at this time of sorrow and rejoicing and also praying for safe travel as your family travels from many different directions to be together. So glad we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Osberg.

One of the first professors I had at Huntington College was Dr. Osberg.  He taught me many things about the Lord, but more importantly he showed us what it means to live for the Lord.  I can only imagine he is rejoicing in glory right now.  I thank God for the life and witness of Dr. Osberg.  We will be praying for the family as they say good bye to this dear saint of God.

It seems one never has the proper words to share at a time like this.  However we  want you to know we feel grief and loss also.   Because of Dick's pastoral years in Columbia City and officiating  the marriage of our daughter and son-in-law we feel a very special bond to the Osbergs.    During those sixteen years we wintered near you in Ft. Myers,  we shall not forget  the wonderful times and  meals we often enjoyed  together..    Dick was special,  what more can we say.  We learned very quickly how the things he preached on Sundays, he truly lived the other six days of the week.  What a witness his life was for the cause of Christ.    Blessings on you Bev,  and your total family, in this time of sorrow.  We only wish we could be with you in person and give you one of those McGregor Baptist hugs, when you need one so badly.
