Robert Lee Rudd,Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Florida, passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of Hope Hospice on September 10, 2026, in Cape Coral. Born on November 18, 1940, in Okeechobee, he was the son of the late William (Bill) and Estelle (Scott) Rudd.
Over the course of his life, Robert built and owned five businesses, but the Mud Racing Track in Ortona, Florida stood above all the rest. He owned it for 20 years, and it became the place where his passion, hard work, and heart truly lived.
Robert lived his life with a spirit as wide and open as the waters he loved and the woods he hunted. An avid fisherman and hunter through and through, he found joy in saltwater, freshwater, and every stretch of woods around him—it never mattered where he was, as long as he had a line in the water or his eye on a bullseye. Fishing and hunting weren’t just hobbies; they were part of who he was, places where he found peace, excitement, and a deep connection to the world around him.
When he wasn’t out on the water or in the woods, Robert could often be found at the Elks Lodge or Moose Lodge, sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie with the friends who became like family. He cherished those moments of fellowship and was known for his easygoing nature and quick humor.
A true handyman, Robert had an uncanny ability to build or fix just about anything. His family often joked that he was a real-life MacGyver, always able to find a solution with whatever tools—or odds and ends—were nearby. His resourcefulness, creativity, and willingness to help others were defining traits that left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Robert’s life was one of simplicity, generosity, and authenticity. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of the outdoors, his craftsmanship, and the friendships he nurtured throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him. He was preceded in death by his five siblings.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Phyllis Bruce; three children, Rhonda Jacobsen (Kevin), Robert Lee Rudd,Jr.(Sissy) and Lynda Hughes; six grandchildren, Clinton, Johnathan, Tara, Lyndsay, Robert Lee Rudd, III and Spencer; five great grandchildren, Bradley, Kaden, Caleb, Carter and Emberly; as well as many extended family members and friends.
No formal services are scheduled at this time for Robert.
