

Robert Vona, 83, of North Fort Myers, FL passed away at home on February 24, 2014. He was born on July 26, 1930 in New York, New York to Salvatore and Nancy Amore Vona. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Gatling DD-671. He worked as an Electrician and was a member of IBEW Local 25, Long Island. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St. Francis Cabrini in Coram, NY. He moved to Florida in 1994. Robert enjoyed woodworking, boating, spending time on the water and fixing his cars.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 10 years, Sheila Vona; five children, Jackie (Mike) Romano of Shirley, NY, Robert Vona of North Fort Myers, Sal Vona of Lake Worth, FL, Paul (Virginia) Vona of Holbrook, NY, Marianne (Harry) Rivera of Selden, NY; eight grandchildren, Jesse, Jake, Robby, Timmy, Joseph, Kristina, Charlie, Christopher; three sisters, Mary, Ann, and Josephine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Jackie Miceli Vona in 1990.
Services will be at 11 am on Saturday, March 8th at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. The family will receive friends starting at 10am. The U.S. Navy will conduct Military Honors. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, NY.
