Robert Francis Wells (Pop), 89, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida. Robert was born on July 14, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to the late Francis and Alice (Ricks) Wells.
Pop was a true lover of life who took nothing for granted. He had a way of enjoying the simple things and making memories wherever he went. He loved bowling, betting on the horses - you know he had a system, playing cards, teasing the grandkids (walking man, something hiding under the bed, and then the made-up arch nemesis (Tyler and Cassie) that always won). Of course, enjoying a cold beer with his buddies. He was always happiest surrounded by good friends, good food, and plenty of laughter.
Pop also had a passion for ball and spent time coaching, enjoyed watching Kev Jr play and said he missed his calling. He had a playful spirit and never lost his sense of fun. One of the memories that will always bring a smile is the friendly tradition he shared with his neighbor of shooting fireworks at each other—and having an absolute blast doing it. That was Pop: always ready for a little fun and never afraid to enjoy the moment.
His famous saying, “Hot Cu Baby!”, was uniquely Pop and is sure to bring a smile to everyone who knew and loved him. Above all, Bob’s all-time favorite pastime was a good old-fashioned cookout. He loved everything about them—the atmosphere, being around people, the laughter, and, of course, the food. For Bob, a cookout wasn’t just a meal; it was a chance to enjoy life and the company of those around him.
Pop will be remembered for his love of life, his sense of humor, his generosity of spirit, and the countless memories he created with the people who were fortunate enough to know him. His stories, laughter, sayings, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00-11:30 Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Boulevard S., Cape Coral, FL. The Funeral will be celebrated at 11:30 AM inside the funeral home. Entombment will follow the services in Coral Ridge Memorial Park & Cremation Gardens in the mausoleum garden of Memory III.
Though he may no longer be here to say it himself, those who knew Pop will always hear him in their memories saying, “Hot Cu Baby!”
Rest peacefully, Pop. You lived life your way, and you will be deeply missed
