There are some people who simply leave a mark on every room they enter. Rock was one of them. He was jolly, funny and took great pleasure in making people laugh. He lived boldly, loved fiercely, and believed deeply in building something that mattered. As co-founder of Champions In Motion, his vision was simple but powerful — every student should feel like the champion they already are. What started as a dream grew into a community that has impacted thousands of families, and that legacy will continue for generations.
Above all, Rock was devoted to his wife of 36 years, Lisa Hood. Their marriage was built on love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering partnership. Together they traveled the world, built a life full of stories, and raised two incredible children. Rock believed in happy wife, happy life, and he lived it. He was thoughtful in the smallest ways, generous in the biggest ones, and always put his family first.
He was a proud father to his daughter, Dakota Hood, and his son, Dalton Hood, and a loving father-in-law to Sarah. He was endlessly proud of his children and the paths they continue to walk.
Rock is also survived by his brothers, who he loved very dearly and considered his best friends: Rory Hood and Randy Hood. He also loved his sister in law Toni Hood.
Immediate family members that went to heaven before him were his mother, Bonnie; his father, Ken and his brother, Roby.
Rock’s life was defined by heart, vision, music, creativity, and the belief that ordinary moments could become extraordinary when shared with the right people. His impact will live on in every athlete who steps on the floor with confidence, every family who found community through Champions In Motion, and every life he encouraged along the way.
A celebration of Rock’s life will be announced by the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Rock’s honor to one of his cherished charities: The Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida, or North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
In the words of Jim Valvano,
“Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.”
Rock’s mind, heart, and soul will carry on forever in the family he loved, the community he built, and the champions he helped create.
