Roger Joseph Stambouly, age 83, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 23, 2025. Born on April 27, 1942, in Michigan to Joseph and Rose Stambouly. Roger is predeceased in death by his parents Joe and Rose Stambouly, nephew Mark Stambouly and former sister-in- law Catherine Stambouly. Roger lived a life full of passion, adventure, and deep devotion to family and community.
Roger is survived by his loving partner of many years, Shirley Savage; his brother, Carl Stambouly, Carl’s wife, Judy Stambouly; his niece, Lynne Stambouly, and her partners, Douglas Roth Jr. and Scott Hickerson and by many cherished friends across the country whose lives he touched in meaningful and lasting ways.
Roger’s career in the restaurant industry began in The Landmark Restaurant, in East Lansing , Michigan, where he created welcoming spaces that turned customers into lifelong friends. His charisma and energy made everyone feel at home, whether they were dining with him or just passing through. This spirit and sense of community would continue throughout his life. Roger also served as a volunteer Fireman in Delta Township, he loved being a fireman, always willing to help.
A pioneer in the early days (1980’s) of Cape Coral, Florida, Roger left Michigan and joined his father, Papa Joe Stambouly, and his brother, Carl Stambouly, to open one of the city’s first restaurants. The Clock Restaurant on Cape Coral Parkway was a beacon as you first arrived in Cape Coral. Always a smile on his face, welcoming many new residents in the City. He was an ambassador, and little did he know then, how much his presence in the city would be felt for decades to come. The Stambouly’s together as a close family helped shape Cape Coral’s growing identity through their hospitality and entrepreneurial spirit. Their success expanded to North Fort Myers with the opening of the beloved Shuckers waterfront restaurant, where Roger’s warm personality and natural gift for connecting with people continued to make him a community favorite and friend to all who knew him.
Beyond business, Roger embraced life with fearless enthusiasm. He was a true daredevil, known for thrilling adventures he took while riding snowmobiles, motorcycles, fast boats, and fast cars, but above all, he loved football. He also sponsored many local teams as he believed in giving back to the community. Roger was truly a devoted sports fan! He loved all sports, and was so knowledgeable on many levels and could relate to all, even an Ohio State fan! Born a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, Roger shared countless frozen Thanksgiving mornings in the bleacher club with his brother Carl and their father, returning home to the family waiting, with frozen noses, full hearts, and perhaps a bit tippy! That fierce love for football became a legacy he passed down to his nephew and niece Mark Stambouly and Lynne Stambouly.
A Memorial Gathering in his honor will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM inside the Remembrance Events Center at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Boulevard S, Cape Coral, Florida 33991, (239) 283-0540.
