Susan Louise Hess, 81, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on September 4, 2023. Born on December 6, 1941, in Chicago, IL, Susan was the beloved wife of the late James Carl Hess. They were married on August 27th, 1960, and shared a wonderful 42 years of marriage together. Susan is the daughter of the late Eloise Vetter Brownfield.
Susan was a warm-hearted and kind individual who touched the lives of many. She was an incredible mother who raised 3 very much-loved children. As the years passed, she began working for many years as a bake shop manager with Jewel Food Stores in Illinois. After moving to Florida, she became a pharmacy technician with Publix, where she continued to make a positive impact on those around her.
Susan had a vibrant and fulfilling personal life. She had a deep love for her family and is survived by her children: David Hess (Calla Hess), Jill Hess Scully (Mike Scully), and Sarah Hess Bajek (Todd Bajek). She adored her grandchildren: Jake Scully, Haleigh Scully, Mallory Hess Bell, Emma Bajek, Riley Scully, Noah Bajek, Michael Hess, and Melanie Iczkowski. Susan also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to Blake Lopez, Stanley Iczkowski, Jesse Iczkowski, and Frank Iczkowski. Susan had a wonderful relationship with her boyfriend John Murphy who she had spent the past 10 years with. Susan cherished her family and created countless cherished memories with them.
Susan found solace and strength in her faith and was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Cape Coral. Her spirituality provided her with comfort and guidance throughout her life.
Outside of her work and family, Susan had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She loved traveling, volunteering at church, concerts (Andre Rieu particularly), gardening, and solving crossword puzzles. These activities allowed her to explore her creativity, connect with others, and find tranquility.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Cape Coral (4117 Coronado Pkwy, Cape Coral, FL 33904) at 11:00 AM, Saturday September 30th, 2023, to honor and remember Susan's remarkable life. Friends and family will gather to share stories, memories, and celebrate the impact she had on their lives. Lite refreshments will be served immediately following in the church’s lobby.
Susan Louise Hess will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warm smile, caring nature, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
