William Dennis Hughes

William Dennis Hughes of Cape Coral, Florida, better known simply as "Bill" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, October 31, 2025. He was 78 years old.

Bill was born in New York City on December 4, 1946, the proud son to Marion (O'Connor) and William T. Hughes.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, Pop, and friend. He loved all things sports — a lifelong superfan of the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Notre Dame. He cheered (and yelled) for them all with the same passion. Bill loved playing softball, golfing, and a good game of cards. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He had that special way about him — he could go somewhere not knowing a soul and leave knowing everyone.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother Marion, father William, brother Bobby, sister Maureen, and brother Mike.

He’s survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rae; his son Billy of North Fort Myers; daughter Casey; and son-in-law Bill of Cape Coral. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Austin, Jordan, and Riley, and great-grandchildren Noah and Ryder along with many loved nieces and nephews.

Bill will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him, laugh with him, and love him. His stories, humor, and kindness will be remembered always.

A Visitation for Bill will be hosted from 9:30 - 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 inside the Remembrance Event Center located at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Boulevard S, Cape Coral, FL 33991. Light refreshments will be served throughout the time of Visitation. Immediately following, at 11:30 AM, a Funeral Service for Bill will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas A. Heck which will also take place inside the funeral home chapel.

Following conclusion of these ceremonies in Cape Coral, family will travel to Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241, (941) 922-7200, where Military Funeral Honors for Bill will be provided by the U.S. Air Force at 1:30 PM concluding with burial of Bill's casket inside the Field of Honor.
