Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised his family there before moving to Cape Coral, Florida in 1973. He believed that if something needed to be done, you rolled up your sleeves and got to work. A welder by trade, he approached every task with care and precision. Whether building, fixing, painting, landscaping or tackling a new project, Bill took pride in doing things the right way. His family often called him the best handyman around, a reflection not only of his skill but also of his generous heart.
Bill proudly served in the Marine Reserve and later with the Cape Coral Police Reserve. In retirement, he volunteered with the Environmental Concerns for Hunger Organization (ECHO), sharing his welding talents and commitment to making a difference. Giving his time and talents to others was simply part of who he was.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family was the center of his world. He never missed a graduation, wedding, birth or important milestone. Through his steady presence and quiet dependability, he made those he loved feel cherished, supported and deeply cared for.
Some of Bill's happiest memories were made with family and friends. He loved road trips, camping adventures and vacations in the mountains, especially at Vogel State Park. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, yardwork and projects of all kinds. He was known for his sweet tooth and never turned down a piece of cake with plenty of icing. Many family members proudly inherited that love of cake from him. He also shared a special bond with his beloved pup, Dinah, who was a faithful companion for many years.
Bill's greatest blessing was the 71 years he shared with his beloved wife, Phyllis. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, faithfulness and partnership. In addition to Phyllis, Bill is survived by his sister Kathy (Bruce); his half brother Ed (Dawn); his son Don (Janice); his daughter Sue (Jim); his grandchildren Derek (Zoe), Jaime (Josh), Adam (Rosalie) and Rachel (Brian); his great grandchildren Ella, Isaac, Evan, Ari, Eli, Gabe, Vincent, Henry and Frankie; his nephew Joey; and his niece Jacki.
Those who knew Bill will remember a strong, steady and hardworking man whose actions spoke louder than words. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared, the example he set and the lessons he taught about hard work, family and service will live on for generations to come. There are no public services planned at this time.
