Dad was born and grew up at Harptree, SK, where he attended school with his 9 brothers and sisters. One of his first careers was insulating and metal wrapping of steampipes and flare stacks at numerous power plants and refineries. During this time, he also earned his Pilot’s License and flew many hours trying to obtain his Commercial Pilot License. With the arrival of us kids, he had to put that dream on hold. He then began his farming career, first renting a farm south of Wauchope, SK and later buying land at Manor, SK where he built his homestead from scratch – house, barn, and sheds. He had a cattle and grain farm and was eventually joined by Justin and Kevin. They farmed together for many years.
We grew up with a house that always had music playing. Whether it was on the radio, record player, or was dad playing the guitar or mandolin while singing. Dad loved going fishing with Reg and the boys, curling, and was proud of the 21 years he spent as Councillor and Reeve for the R.M. of Moose Mountain. Mom and dad went on many trips over the years until mom’s passing. Dad started going to Arizona after that, which he enjoyed and is where he met and married Esther. They continued splitting their time between living in Arizona in colder months and spending summer at the farm until the covid pandemic and declining health changed that routine.
The Christian faith was a big part of dad’s life. Attending church in Weyburn was very important to him. He loved reading the bible and was always up for a lively debate on religion, politics, and current events.
He will be missed and always remembered.
A Private Family Service was held on Friday, December 31 from the Chapel of the Orsted Funeral Home with Jim Sedor officiating. Interment in Manor Cemetery.
