

Billy Wesley Beyers, 81, of Carmel, passed away February 29, 2024. He was born on March 22, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Billy and Marietta (Cartwright) Beyers. Bill graduated with distinction from the University of Kansas at Lawrence with a degree in electrical engineering. While at Kansas he was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity.
He immediately began his career with RCA home instruments in Indianapolis, Indiana. Subsequently he received his MS from Purdue University and MBA from Indiana University.
Bill spent his entire illustrious career with RCA (later Thomson Consumer Electronics). While there, he had overall technical responsibility for many projects, including the video compression system and consumer receivers, which later became the DirecTV Satellite system. In late 1997 Bill was chosen to lead Thomson’s new research laboratory in Indianapolis. The laboratory teamed with Purdue and received two 21st-Century Awards from the State of Indiana.
Bill retired in January, 2004. He was awarded 45 U.S patents and three Emmy’s – one for his work as a member of the grand alliance on HDTV and one as a member of Thomson’s team that developed digital satellite TV receivers. In 2004 Bill was one of eight recipients of Purdue’s prestigious Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineers awards.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda (Randleman) Beyers; son, William (Courtney) Beyers; four grandchildren, Barrett, Lucy, Ruby, and Banks Beyers; and sister, Bonnie Nalan.
He had a passion and love for his family, especially his grandkids.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 11 AM – 1 PM, followed by a service at 1 PM. Leppert Mortuary– Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Rd., Carmel, IN. A private burial will take place at Carmel cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to his granddaughter‘s Lucy‘s fund at Riley Hospital to benefit the heart center.
