Obituary of David Miller Beckmann
David Miller Beckmann peacefully passed away surrounded by family at the age of 79 years on May 25, 2019 in Carmel, IN. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, David attended St X High School, Bellarmine University, and the University of Notre Dame, graduated with degrees in Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Science. He began his career as an Educator and Business Administrator of Chartrand High School (Roncalli) and continued at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School as an Educator and Vice President of Finance from where he retired. David was devoted to his family and faith. He was passionate about social justice and helping those who were underserved. From a very young age, he found ways to give back to his community. David created scholarship opportunities to make a Jesuit education accessible to those who otherwise could not afford it. He loved his family and worked tirelessly to provide for them. His grandchildren brought him much joy as he shared many special times with them. He fought hard through the adversity he faced in his life, courageously persevering, but never complaining. He enjoyed music, theatre, and fried chicken. David was affiliated with and volunteered with numerous organizations including the American Chemical Society, The Rotary Club (International Youth Exchange Program), served on many committees at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and served faithfully as the Financial Secretary for several years, led Bible studies and sang in the Gloria Dei Choir at OLMC, and was a time keeper for basketball, soccer, and track at Brebeuf. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis Beckmann and Helen (Nemes), brothers Francis Beckmann Jr., James Beckmann, sister Carolyn Borst (Joe), nieces Celeste Mullenex, Deborah Hoban, Carolynne Flint, and Mary Jude Borst. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean-Ann (Rossi), children Frances East (Randy), Kenneth Beckmann, Jon Beckmann (Steven Uhrin), Karyn Hobbs, and Sara Beckmann, 11 grandchildren Vincent Beckmann, Brian East (Jacqueline), Justin Martinez-Beckmann, Gregory East, Marcus Beckmann, Nicole East, Riley Hobbs, Sidney Hobbs, Quinten Hobbs, Geovanny Beckmann-Uhrin, Alex Beckmann-Uhrin, 1 great-grandchild Zander East, brother Charles Beckmann (Dorothy), sister Mary Ann Craycroft (Ed), sister-in-law Pat Beckman, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation service will be held from 4pm-8pm on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Leppert Mortuary Smith Carmel, 900 North Rangeline Road Carmel, Indiana 46032. A Celebration of Life Mass will be celebrated in memory of David on Friday May 31st at 11am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel 14598 Oak Ridge Rd.
