

CARMEL – Eugene (Gene) Alan Ritter, 85, of Carmel, passed away on March 29, 2025. He was born on Jan 8, 1940, in Louisville, KY, to the late Carl and Madeline Ritter.
Gene graduated from GMI Kettering with a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering. He had a distinguished career as an engineer, working for General Motors, White Motors, and later retiring from Batesville Casket Company after 28 years of service. Gene was deeply committed to his faith and active in his church, where he sang in the choir, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and, alongside his wife, mentored young couples in Pre-Cana marriage preparation. Gene could always be found at every family event with a camcorder in hand. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family, having been a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Madeline Ritter; his brother, Carl Ritter; and his granddaughter, Gemma Ritter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Ritter; his children, Gene and Andrea Ritter, Kurt and Kerri Ritter, Jade and Lissa Ritter, Hans and Kelly Ritter, and Brandon and Danielle Ritter; 24 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, IN. A committal service will occur where Gene will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 1:30 PM at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Batesville, IN.
There will be a reception immediately following the burial at "The Hall"- home of the Knights of Columbus, 624 Delaware Rd., Batesville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the National Right to Life Committee.
