Gerald Lee Conner was born on January 24, 1943 to Lucian and Carrie (Talley) Conner in Indianapolis, Indiana. He had four brothers, Floyd, Carol, Melvin (Dennis) and Lucian (Gerry) and a sister, Ramona who died in infancy.
Jerry, as he was known to friends, grew up in Carmel, Indiana when it was just a small town. He went to Carmel High School and then went into an electrical apprentice program ultimately becoming a master electrician.
His life changed forever when a “flock” of girls went by in a convertible one night while he was out “cruising” with friends. One of the girls was Linda Hall and she would become his bride on February 8, 1964.
Together they had two daughters, Shannon Elizabeth Conner and Colleen Paige Borno. Jerry, who they called the Al Pal Big Daddy Owl for reasons unknown, coached them in softball, cheered them on in basketball and kickball and camped with them in Indian Princesses.
The only thing Jerry liked more than being Linda’s honey love was being a grandpa. He had seven grandchildren to cheer on at sports, music, theater and life; Hannah DuLac, and the Bielefeld’s Shane, Grace, Rose, Clare, Hailey and Neve. He had two great grandchildren as well; Doris Elliott and Aurora Hignite.
Jerry was also blessed with the people his children and grandchildren chose: Murphy Borno, Greg Bielefeld, Taylor Hignite, Will Elliott, and Maddie Hidalgo.
Beyond his family, Gerald loved his country. He admired those who served and had a special place in his heart for first responders. He was also drawn to all things Scottish. We are waiting on his DNA results but he loved 18 year old scotch, shortbread cookies, visiting Ireland and Scotland and the bagpipes. We will be shocked if we find that he is anything other than Irish, English or Scottish.
On most days, if you asked, he would say he was seven eighths or fifteen sixteenths... Today we believe he is whole.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Rd., Carmel, Indiana 46032, followed by a funeral mass at 12:00 PM. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gerald's memory may be made to Merciful Help Center, 1045 W. 146th Street, Carmel, Indiana 46032 US, https://www.mercifulhelpcenter.org/.
