
89, of Westfield , Indiana departed this life on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Rod was born on September 2, 1936 in Grangeville, Idaho to the late Ira & Juanita (Wharton) Von Bargen. He grew up and attended schools in Grangeville and was a graduate of Grangeville High School. He enjoyed fishing and hunting the mountains and meadows of his home and never lost his Spirit of the West.
Following high school, Rod moved to Seattle where he began his career in printing. He worked as a print foreman for the Seattle Times and Seattle Post – Intelligencer. He then returned to Idaho and settled in Lewiston where he worked for the Lewiston Tribune as Foreman for Graphic Communications. Rod then opened and operated Orchards Print Shop in Lewiston for many years where he made many longtime friendships.
Rod was a member of the Jaycees, DeMolay International, International Printing Pressman & Assistant’s Union of North America, the Washington State Pressman Council, GCIU Local 767 and Teamsters Local 582.
Rod was preceded in death by his wives, Marileu Von Bargen and Elizabeth “Betty” Von Bargen. He is survived by his sons, Duan, Mark & Rick Von Bargen; brothers, Gary & Jack Von Bargen and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Rod will be announced at a later date.
