Obituary of Jimmie D. Arnold
Jimmie Dean Arnold, 85, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022. Jimmie was born on October 31, 1936 to Florence Worth and William Ezra Arnold in Fillmore, Indiana. He was the seventh child of eight and he spent his young years playing and working on the family farm. He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1954. He worked at International Harvester in 1954 as a young graduate and then began employment with the IBM Corporation in 1955. On August 3, 1958, he married his sweetheart, Roberta King and they moved in to their new home in Greencastle, Indiana, that was built by Roberta’s father, Bob King. Jimmie had begun learning about the masonry business from his father, Ezra, and Jimmie completed all of the masonry details on their new home. In 1970, he resigned from IBM and began working full-time in his own business, Arnold Masonry. Jimmie became a very skilled mason and his skills were mainly self-taught. He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated and determined to provide for his young family. In January of 1960, Jimmie became a proud Dad to their daughter Jamie, followed by daughter Kativa in 1963, and son J. Allan in 1967. Jimmie was known throughout west central Indiana as one of the finest and most skilled brick masons. He is the skilled craftsman of many homes in west central Indiana. He loved all forms of masonry work, but was truly most renown for his fireplace work. In 2000, Jimmie retired from the masonry business and focused on his role of Grandpa to Alyssa, Kirsten, Maci & Graysen. He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and was an avid cheerleader of theatre, softball, dance, choir, football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. In 2006, Jimmie and Roberta moved to Westfield Indiana. Jimmie loved auto racing and attended the Indianapolis 500, and many NASCAR races over the years. His love of cars led him to accept a contract position with Butler Toyota and Kia, Indy Imports, and Indy Trucks. He drove many miles for the dealerships dealer trading and delivering cars. His favorite part of the job, besides the cars, was the camaraderie he experienced with his fellow “drivers”! Jimmie loved to eat meals out and he especially loved catfish. He looked forward to outings to Miller’s Restaurant in Colfax, Indiana, and Stookey’s Restaurant in Thorntown, Indiana. He was also a regular at The Double Decker Drive-In in Greencastle for many years! Jimmie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Roberta (Bobbie), their children Jamie McClaine (Fred), Kativa Leal (Daniel), and J. Allan Arnold (Nancy), four grandchildren, Alyssa Wood, Kirsten Arnold, Maci McClaine, Graysen McClaine and one great grandson, Oliver McClaine. He is also survived by two sisters, Wilma Wallace and Shirley Whitley and many nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Worth and William Ezra Arnold, four sisters, Waneta McMains, Imogene Scobee, Joan Veazey, and Joyce Girton, one brother, Bobby Wayne Arnold, and a daughter in-law, Kimberly Hansel Arnold. Jimmie loved his family with a very deep, sometimes quiet love. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace surrounded by Our Father’s glorious light. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice Care of Indianapolis, Indiana, who so graciously cared for Jimmie with extreme compassion and respect. A visitation for Jimmie will be held on Monday, August 29 from 5:00-7:00 and on Tuesday, August 30 from 10:00-11:00am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Road, Carmel, Indiana 46032. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 30 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Road, Carmel, Indiana 46032. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or phone: (800) 227-2345 to direct your donation to a specific cancer type.
