Juan (Jun) Ortañez Villamin, Jr., 85, died peacefully on October 30, 2025, surrounded by his wife Narcisa (Kalalo Villamin) and their three children: Nora Woodman (Chris Petrelli), Norman (Dinah Valenzuela), and Jon (Victoria Villamin). Jun was the loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: DJ, Zach, Caleb, and Caroline Villamin; Gabby and Francesca Woodman; and Lexi, Jonah, and Katie Villamin. Jun was born in Cavinti, Laguna Province of The Philippines on February 17, 1940, the youngest of seven children to Agapita (Ortañez) and Juan Villamin, Sr.
Jun's early childhood years were spent on his parents' farm, where he helped the family grow and sell bananas and coconuts. The family later moved to Manila, where Jun made lifelong friendships as a boy scout and completed his primary education. He attended Far Eastern University of The Philippines, where he met Narcisa Kalalo, and both earned undergraduate and medical degrees in October 1964.
After practicing medicine for one year in their respective hometowns, Jun and Narcisa joined a foreign medical graduate (FMG) program to become physician interns in the United States. With $25 in his pocket and $50 in hers, the medical school sweethearts began their work-abroad adventure at Milwaukee, WI's Mt. Sinai Hospital in December 1965. The couple moved to Cleveland, OH in July 1966 to continue in residency programs at St. Alexis Hospital and were married at St. Anne Catholic Church in Cleveland Heights on September 9, 1966.
In the summer of 1968, they became new parents with first born Nora and moved to Detroit, MI. Jun joined St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, MI as a surgical resident, and later completed a fellowship in abdominal surgery at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI. Although their original plan was to return to The Philippines upon completion of their residencies, Jun and Narcisa were eligible to remain in the U.S. through the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. They chose to continue practicing medicine in the Detroit area, where Norman and Jon were born. In 1979, Jun became a naturalized United States citizen.
In 1979, Jun and Narcisa opened their own medical practice, Villamin & Villamin, M.D.,P.C, in Romulus, MI. Their clinic served the residents of the southwest Detroit suburb and surrounding neighborhoods for more than 20 years. The couple retired to Las Vegas, NV in 2001 where Jun learned to play golf, returned to his farming roots growing annual vegetable gardens, volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, enjoyed competitive mahjong games with their close-knit Filipino community, and savored the food and fun that Las Vegas offered. Over the next two decades, Jun and Narcy would also travel the globe. Together, or with friends, or with their children and grandchildren they were blessed to have visited and experienced the cultures of two dozen countries on three continents.
In November 2020, the couple relocated to Carmel, IN, where Jun planted bountiful vegetable gardens for five more seasons. With quiet strength, he cultivated abundance from the earth. With inherent determination, he cultivated abundance from his life. Juan O. Villamin, Jr.'s legacy is defined by a passion for continuous learning, the pursuit excellence, generous acts of service, and unwavering commitment to family and faith in God.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Catholic funeral mass for Jun on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 10am EST, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 17102 Spring Mill Rd., Westfield, IN.
