Judith Funk Gest, 81, born the first day of Spring 1940, welcomed to her heavenly home the first day of Autumn 2021. She was born to M. Eloise and Lewis Funk in Lafayette, IN. Judy was a 1958 graduate of Hillsboro High School and attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis.

She married Morton Gest October 8th 1961, and settled in Carmel, IN where they raised their family. They were married 48 years until Mort’s passing in 2010. Judy is survived by her brother Michael Funk and his wife Judy, her sister-in-law Greta Gibson, her children Dianne Swenson, Karen (Terry) McConnell and Richard Gest. Her grandchildren Sara Koehler (Mike), Erin Beck, Joshua Gest, Haley Fisher-Gest, Jonathan Fisher-Gest, Lily Fisher-Gest, Shannon McConnell, Terry McConnell, and Great-grandchildren Brynn and Morgan Koehler and dear friend and companion Karl Swain. She is also survived by the entire customer service department at QVC (sorry, it’s how we cope).

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Morton Gest, son Jay Daniel Gest and daughter Marcia Gest, all of whom she cared for at home before their passing.

She enjoyed her career in nursing, both in patient care and instruction, inspiring many. Judy also loved her church where she served as an elder and taught bible study for 40 years.

But more than anything, Judy loved her family and friends and she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Carmel Christian Church.

Judy moved from Attica to Hillsboro and we became best friends. On Judy’s birthday, Eloise would fix liver and onions and “sad” cake ( chocolate cake under-baked), we loved it! I spent many overnights in their home and younger brother Mike was always hanging around. Great memories with Judy and her family.❤️

Thinking of you all at this time when our own loss is so fresh. I can just picture our Moms together -healthy and enjoying themselves knowing they no longer have sick people to take care of and can enjoy each other's company! They definitely leaned on each other, shared their healthcare knowledge, and their faith throughout the years. Death deserves a life well lived - and Judy did that in spades.

Your family took me in when I had nowhere to go, and then showed me what true love was. Your mother leaves a legacy that touched many lives. My heart and prayers are with you.

What a beautiful gem your mother was! I can remember my mom calling her for advice when I was sick or injured and what Mrs Gest said was gospel! I know she will be missed greatly but what a lovely legacy she has left. My prayers are with you.
