On May 25, 2026, we lost one of the most kind, nurturing, and caring people we have ever known, Karen J. Hill, 80. She was born June 5, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Carl and Stella (Augustyn) Beckley. She attended Saint Mary’s College and taught elementary school in Michigan before moving to Carmel, Indiana, in 1977.
Karen was a wonderful mother and role model to her four daughters. As her girls grew older, she began working at Carmel High School as a teacher’s aide, impacting the lives of numerous students. She was a nanny to several children including her favorites, Scott and Ben. She enjoyed being Grandma and helped to care for her five grandchildren, who love her dearly.
Karen was a woman of faith and family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Sandy (Richard) Burke, Kathi (Andrew) Vitale, and Kelly (Matthew) McNairy; adoring grandchildren, Nat, Caden, Abby, Anna, and Matthias; and son-in-law, David Parker. Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas, her daughter, Tracy Parker and brothers, Patrick and William Beckley.
The family is hosting a private funeral Mass at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist. Burial will be at Carmel Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 13, 2026.
Karen will be remembered by her beautiful smile. She loved children, enjoyed a good mystery book, could not tell a lie, and made everyone she met feel welcome and loved. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Karen’s name to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or to your local library.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.leppertmortuary.com for the Hill family.
