Karen K. Panetta

November 3, 1951- June 15, 2025

Karen, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on June 15, 2025. Karen was a loving wife of 30 years, mother, and grandmother.

Karen was born and raised in Beach Grove, IN by her mother, Lorain Agan and father, Emmett Agan with one sibling, Gary Agan. Karen devoted herself to raising her son Jason Schwomeyer while residing on the northside of Indianapolis. She later met and married her husband John and together blended their families becoming stepmother to Jamie and Nick.

Karen had a successful career at GTE, later becoming Verizon, for 16 years where she thrived as an integral member of her team and an asset to the company. She enjoyed an early retirement where she spent her time traveling the country, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and indulging in one of her favorite hobbies, wreath making and flower arranging. Her talent and eye for arranging and interior design was evident in her home, and she loved to share that joy and talent with family and friends.

Karen is survived by her husband John; son, Jason (Traci) Schwomeyer; stepdaughter, Jamie (Greg) Thompson; stepson Nick (Michele) Panetta, and grandchildren Aria Schwomeyer, Dylan & Matthew Nance, Caroline Thompson and Marcella & Gianluca Panetta.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents.

The visitation for Karen will be Thursday, June 19th at Leppert Mortuaries - Carmel Chapel (900 North Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN 46032) from 11:00AM-1:00PM followed by a service at 1:00PM. Burial follows at Carmel Cemetery, Carmel, IN.
