Lois E. Oberhaus, 95, of Carmel, passed away August 12, 2023. She was born March 8, 1928 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Clarence and Elvina (Suter) Burkholder. The family lived in a Swiss Community in Bluffton. Lois graduated from Bluffton High School in 1945. She married Willis Oberhaus on May 25, 1953.
Following high school, Lois entered the field of X-Ray technology and became a registered X-Ray Technologist and worked in hospitals in Ohio, Florida, and Indiana for 15 years. She chose to further her education at St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She earned a B.S. and Master’s degree. She taught in the Fort Wayne and Carmel School Systems for over 25 years. As the Carmel area grew, she taught at the various elementary schools including Carmel, Woodbrook, Mohawk Trails, and Cherry Tree. Although Lois was committed to continuing education, her focus was on the wellbeing and happiness of her family.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, Kay (David) Wyler and Jean Hipple; son-in-law, Gregg Hipple; grandchildren, Sean (Jessica) Wyler, Keriann Wyler, and Samuel Hipple; great grandchildren, Gracie, Natalie, and Matthew Wyler. Along with her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Willis, in 1998.
Private services for Lois will be held with family and close friends at Leppert Mortuary – Carmel Chapel. She will be laid to rest next to Willis at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
