Marlene was born August 16, 1943, in Paoli, Indiana, to Bill and Wilma Wilson. A graduate of Paoli High School, she went on to attend Porter Business School and built a career at Eli Lilly, where she worked for more than 30 years before retiring — a testament to the steadiness and dedication she brought to everything she did.
But Marlene's truest work was the kind for which she was never paid. She gave her time generously as a volunteer at Riverview Hospital, Riley Children's Hospital, and Greenfield Christian Church, where she was a longtime member. She especially cherished her years at Riverview and the dear friends she made there — friendships that meant as much to her as the work itself. She had a heart for showing up — for patients, for children, for her church family — and she did it quietly, faithfully, and often.
Marlene was quiet by nature, but those who knew her best knew how much she loved to laugh with her friends and family. She will be missed terribly by all who had the privilege of meeting her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Maiolo, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Ross Ferson, and his wife, Kim; her sisters, Brenda Fisher (the late Roger), and Carol Semmons; and her brother, Kevin Wilson (the late Joyce).
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marlene's memory may be made to Carmel Christian Church, 463 E. Main St., Carmel, IN 46032, as she recently found a church closer to her home.
