Michael B. van Benten, age 75, died after a long illness on August 23, 2023. Michael was the son of the late John and Ruth van Benten. He was predeceased by his brother Mark. Michael was the uncle to 15 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brothers, Kevin and Joe (Lynn Nichols), his sister-in-law, Lee Ann (Mark’s widow), and his sisters, Susan Odle Roy (Tom), Diane Bradburn (John) and Annie Hunt (Brian).
Mike graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas grade school in Indianapolis. He graduated high school from the Augustinian Academy in St. Louis, Missouri. Mike received a degree from Northwood Institute in West Baden, Indiana in hotel and restaurant management. He later received an MBA from Wright State in Ohio. He earned his C.P.A. and had his own accounting practice in Springfield, Ohio. Due to declining health issues, Mike returned to Indianapolis and worked in several fields eventually retiring from Kroger.
Mike was an avid Pacers and Colts fan and enjoyed playing games and reading. He was a long-time member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Rd., Carmel, IN at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26th. Internment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mike’s name to the Little Sisters of the Poor at 2345 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.
