
He was born May 18, 1938, to Edith (Brown) Steckley and Robert Steckley in Beech Grove, IN.
He was a member of St. Marks UMC, Clarence A. Cook chapter of Sons of American Revolution (SAR), Kentucky Colonels and Military Offices of America (MOA).
He leaves behind Alice (Jean) Yocum Steckley, his wife of 66 years. Two sons, Richard A. Steckley, Jr. (Sherrie), James W. Steckley (Julie), brother James R. Steckley (Virginia), sister-in-law Lyn Hubley, brother-in-law Bill Yocum (Margie), Cousin Jack Powers (Vivina), 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was a retired Lt. Col. USAF with 24 years of service and deployed twice during the Vietnam War.
After retirement, he began teaching in the Albuquerque Public School system as a high school math teacher. He served as a teacher and department chair for 16 of his 17 years teaching.
He enjoyed travel, work on genealogy and fishing. He found camping trips great fun.
Cremation and entombment at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
He loved his family, his country, his church and his students.
